DESIGN SPRINT: PARTNERS
Improving the donation flow for Partners Relief & Development, non-profit organization.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Role: UX/UI Designer
Duration: 1 week, May - July 2021
Tools: Figma
Skills: UX research, UI design, usability testing, accessibility testing
Team: Hien Le (UX/UI Design) & Matt Scheffer (UX/UI Design)
BACKGROUND
For this design sprint, my teammates and I were challenged with improving the donation flow for a social cause.
We designed a mobile app for a non-profit organization called Partners, which focused on refugee crises around the world. Since we are passionate about this cause, we assumed that a mobile app would help attract future donors for this organization - which currently only has a website.
PROBLEM SPACE
Partners Relief & Development is a charity-based organization that provides emergency relief for communities of displaced families during acute crisis events such as the Myanmar, Rohingya, and Middle East crises.
Since the organization already has a website, we decided to create a mobile product to attract new donors and reach a wider audience.
So we asked,
“How might we create a seamless mobile donation experience to motivate novice philanthropists?”
RESEARCH
Four themes arose from the interviews.
PERSONA
Holly is not an experienced philanthropist but wants to help. She finds the researching and donation process daunting and would be more motivated to donate if the process was easier and more transparent.

SKETCH
Each of us separated to look for inspiration from other non-profit apps to see how their donation flow looked like and sketched out ideas. We then came back as a team to vote on the UI elements and sketches that we would collectively like to see in the final prototype.
Decisions were made through dot voting and discussion.

DECIDE
After dot voting & discussion, the sketches chosen were created into our first prototype.
From left to right; Home, Donation Screen, Donation Options, Donation Amount, Confirmation Modal.
TEST
We conducted 5 tests.
Each test lasts from 10 to 15 minutes.
Testing Highlights:
Accessibility issues (color contrast)
Unclear buttons (Learn more, Get notified)
Confusing donation options (Amazon Smile, Birthday Fundraiser)
Full interview transcripts (Primary Research) & full user testing transcripts (for Prototype V.1 Testing) are available.
DESIGN PRIORITIZATION MATRIX
Here, we have our design prioritization matrix which shows us the main concerns or pain points that our users noted that we’ve incorporated and changed in the final version of the Partners prototype.
IMPLEMENTED ITERATIONS
Changes made from mid-fidelity, to version 1, to version 2.
CONCLUSION
Next Steps
Get another round of testing
Refine the prototype
Publish (team members' portfolio websites) and open the project to more opportunities - maybe serve a starting line for aspiring UI designers who want to take the existing UX research and develop into different interfaces.
To implement more accessibility features into the product. There could be more adaptations made for language capabilities, text-to-speech, and options for color and content adjustments.
